Please click on each scenario to see how a message receiver or covering person for the selected person is automatically displayed for each scenario, based on call type, call reason, call location, message delivery preference and other preferences of the receiver and receiver’s call group.
Scenario 1: In this scenario Nurse Judy wants to send a Routine Text Message to Dr. Smith regarding a patient needing Tylenol Orders. Since it’s a routine message, Mrs.Fields the nurse practitioner on call for Dr.Smith is shown as the covering person to whom the secure text message will be sent and not the physician on call.
Scenario 2: In this scenario Nurse Mary wants to send a STAT Text Message to Dr. Smith regarding a patient with sustained VT and hypotension. Since it’s a stat message, Dr.Anderson is shown as the covering person to whom the secure text message will be sent and not the nurse practitioner on call.
Scenario 3: In this scenario Dr. Keller wants to make a STAT Phone Call to Dr. Smith regarding a patient of his with Acute MI and requires an emergency cath. Since the call reason is a STEMI, Dr.Walker the Interventionalist is shown as the covering person, and not Dr. Anderson, who is first on call. Dr. Keller simply clicks on the phone icon to talk to Dr.Walker on his cell, without the phone number being revealed to the caller.
Scenario 4: In this scenario Nurse Julie wants to send an Urgent Text Message to Multiple Specialists regarding an ICU patient with rapid A-Fib, respiratory failure and hypotension. The covering persons for each of multiple specialists selected is displayed, so that the common text message can be sent to all the covering specialists at one shot rather than contacting them individually, thereby saving precious time in the care of this critically ill patient.
Scenario 5: In this scenario Dr. Dean wants to send a STAT Text Message to physician on call for Cardiology regarding a patient with unstable angina and dynamic EKG changes. Dr.Cruz is on call for cardiology, but the system automatically displays Dr.Armstrong who is on call for his group as the covering person. The text message along with the EKG can be sent securely to the covering person.
Scenario 6: In this scenario Nurse Cathy wants to Activate Code Blue Team regarding a patient who just went into cardiac arrest on a PCU floor. The system displays the code blue team on call so that the secure text message can be sent to all the team members at once.
